At Amador Dentistry, we offer you a full range of oral care treatments to help restore the health and structure of your teeth. One of these treatments is endodontic therapy, more commonly known as root canal treatment.
The innermost part of your tooth structure is called the pulp. It is made of blood vessels and nerves. The pulp can get damaged and infected by bacterial exposure due to several reasons such as deep decay or trauma. An infection in the pulp causes pain and swelling in the tooth and can further lead to nerve death and tooth loss.
Root canal therapy can save the tooth from extraction and prevent further damage and infection. Although many patients fear root canal, we aim to perform this procedure with little-to-no pain, and when it is complete, you will find that you are far more comfortable than you were before.
The treatment involves making an opening in the tooth and removing the infected, inflamed or dead pulp tissue using special dental instruments. The root canals of the infected tooth are then flushed, cleaned and sterilized before shaping them and sealing them will a dental sealing material called gutta percha to prevent further infection.
Your tooth will likely require the protection of a dental crown after a root canal treatment to stabilize its structure and prevent fracturing. After the procedure, we will take impressions of your tooth and prepare a high-quality permanent crown restoration for you. While the permanent crown is being made, a temporary one will be fitted onto your tooth.
If you are experiencing sharp pains in your tooth or any other symptoms of a pulp infection, call our office at (954) 941-4410 for an evaluation now.
